The Poggenbahn is an HO scale (1:87) model railway layout based on Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB, the German Federal Railways) epochs III and IV, which cover roughly the time period from 1945 through 1980. Specifically, I'm modeling Germany around 1970, as all three types of locomotives were in service at that time (steam, diesel, and electric).

The layout size is 9 ft. x 5 ft. (approximately 2.75 m x 1.5 m). The trains are mostly Fleischmann models. Sadly, Fleischmann ceased production of its HO scale line in 2019 so I've now added nice models from Roco as well as Piko and ESU. The track plan is based on the Granite Gorge & Northern railway, a trackplan from the Atlas Model Railroad Co., with a few modifications, such as the railway station we added. It was started by my late father-in-law John Yates with his sons. After his death it was taken over by me and my nephews Edward and Simon Chaffetz and Johnny Yates. As with most model railways, it's a work in progress, and now my son Alexander has joined the club.

Since the layout is located in my wife's family's old country house in the Pocono mountains of Pennsylvania, I've given it the name "Poggenbahn". I hope you enjoy the photos and video clips that follow.
